Sustainability
High quality and modern thinking are reflected in our process-oriented integrated management system according to IATF 16949:2016, ISO 14001:2015 and
ISO
45001:2018. The precise identification of our customer expectations, to capture them and fulfill them best in all processes - this is the core of our actions.
Quality and environment management
Each DGS process is characterized by the zero-error strategy. Already during the planning phase, we analyze all possible risks for probability and impact in order to minimize errors during each production step. We develop our project and QM plans according to the APQP and RGA standards. We ensure consistently high material and manufacturing quality with state-of-the-art 3D measuring machines and our own laboratory for X-ray, spectral, density and strength analyzes during running processes. With FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and clearly defined intervention scenarios we are able to recognize any deviations early and reduce their consequences to a minimum.
Significant investments in research and development, well-established CIP proposals (Continuous Improvement Process) as well as our certified quality and environmental management systems ensure that we constantly improve the DGS quality.
Climate protection plays an important role for DGS. We have implemented a certified environmental management system at all locations which we continuously enhance in close cooperation with our customers, suppliers and authorities.
Sustainability
Increasing sustainability is a key task for DGS in many aspects. With our lightweight components in the propulsion, body and interior to reduce petrol, diesel and electricity consumption, we make a significant contribution to the ecological preservation of our planet. We essentially focus on decarbonizing our value chain to continuously improve energy and resource efficiency. The main factor for emissions in the foundry industry is also consistently minimized through the gradual conversion of our raw material procurement towards CO₂-reduced materials. In the meantime, we already procure the majority of aluminum primary alloys in Europe on the basis of CO₂-optimized "green electricity" electrolysis with a footprint optimized by approx. 50% to 4kg CO₂ / kg aluminum.
CO₂-Targets
As DGS, we have committed to producing CO₂-neutral worldwide by 2039. We have already set ourselves the interim goal for 2027 of reducing emissions by more than 50% compared to 2021 and have started corresponding cross-border projects.
Switzerland (St. Gallen)
Especially at our premises in St. Gallen we have been able to reduce our CO₂ emissions by more than 90% to less than 4000t / a since 2015!
Project examples include the installation of a 680 kWp photovoltaic system, the use of green electricity, a new and more energy-efficient water treatment system, extensive heat exchanger installations and the abolition of the protective gas SF6.
From 2023, we will be able to feed in up to 6 GWh of thermal energy annually in St. Gallen as part of the state-of-the-art district heating system "gsg-energienetz" (https://energienetz-gsg.ch) and thus contribute for the (almost) CO₂-neutral heating of the nearby shopping malls, the football stadium and other industrial and residential properties.
Czech Republic (Liberec and Frydlant)
At the Liberec site, we have been optimizing water and energy consumption through many individual projects for years. The new production facility in Frydlant was designed for optimized resource consumption. In addition to numerous optimization projects, we are planning a large photovoltaic system and the purchase of green electricity in the future.
China (Nansha and Rizhao)
At the site in Nansha, the CO₂ footprint has already been optimized in recent years by modernizing the water treatment and compressed air supply. In addition to numerous optimization projects, we are planning to switch to a completely new protective gas system for 2023, which will significantly reduce CO₂ emissions. The new location in Rizhao has already been designed for optimized resource consumption. In addition to numerous smaller optimization projects, we are also planning a large photovoltaic system.
